flabbergasting and befuddling since 1973

Took a long walk with a friend today in Washington Park from the Zoo MAX station to Goose Hollow MAX. We wound down the Wildwood trail then down next to the Japanese Gardens and the Rose Gardens then down below to the reservoirs down to the Vista Bridge and Jefferson Street. The upper reservoir is newly opened to the public after “decades” of being closed. You can walk around it when its open during daylight hours. The water is a strange greenish blue (its Portland’s drinking water!) and the security guards are very friendly.

I went on a business trip to Vancouver, B.C. back in January. I had one nice sunny day and one pouring down rain day. The weather was pretty much just like Portland. My hotel was in downtown Vancouver and that's mostly where I stayed. I did a ton of walking, then took the Sky Train when my feet gave out. There is so much to see, I hope I get to go back next year and explore some more. Photos can be found on flickr.

On my trip back from Vancouver, BC in January the air was so clear and we were flying fairly low for an airplane (it was a prop plane). I had my camera shoved out the window the whole flight. Vancouver, Whidbey Island, Seattle, Mt Rainier, Mt Saint Helens, Mt Jefferson, Mt Hood, and Mount Adams…
I especially love this shot because it looks like a model set. Click on the Image and be linked to my flickr set

First day of the tram being open to employees. Nice and smooth ride except coming back up over the lower tower where there was a nice little bump and drop which is evidently not very noticeable when the tram is full. The max capacity for a car is about 70 people. More photos on flickr.

The cutest little noble fir, ever!
About 3.5 feet high by 3 feet wide.

This little brass marker was at the top of the east side of the stairway under the Depoe Bay Bridge on highway 101. I figured it was some geological survey doohickey. Found on September 30, 2006 on vacation with the parentals.
Does the arrow point north?
The year appears to be 1952 (as verified by the links below)
Evidently its a geodetic tidal benchmark.

Looks like an interesting geeky hobby. Runaround with your GPS and find these guys. This one was a bit worn. I imagine 50 years of foot traffic would do it as it is in a highly visible spot.
Maybe I should go visit the Willamette Stone State Heritage Site again!

I have no idea what this is but it looked interesting. Taken on 7/30/06 in Hillsboro while waiting for a AAA car rescue.
